Body image is how you perceive your body and how you believe others perceive you. It's influenced by your family, friends, social media, the fashion industry, and Hollywood. People with a negative body image often feel they are too fat, skinny, or unlovable. As a result, they may constantly worry about their appearance and think about ways to change their body. If you have a negative body image, there are things you can do to have a more positive body image.
1) Don't compare yourself to others
The media is full of images of "perfect" bodies that are airbrushed and typically may not be realistic. The images found online of bodies are not natural bodies, and you should not compare yourself to anyone but yourself. So to be more confident, you need to find a way to boost your own confidence without comparing yourself to anyone else.
2) Appreciate your body
Your body does amazing things! It enables you to run, jump, dance, and hug the people you love. Be grateful for what your body can do instead of dwelling on its perceived flaws. Self-appreciation is a crucial part of self-love. Without self-love, it's impossible to have a positive body image. One way you can start to appreciate your body more is by writing down two things you appreciate about your body each day and sticking them in your mirror. This way, you can read these notes every morning when you're getting ready for the day.
3) Nourish your body
Eat healthy foods that make you feel good physically and mentally. Exercise regularly because it reduces stress and boosts your mood as well as your physical health. Get enough sleep so you have the energy to do the things you enjoy. Additionally, you should remember to practice self-care to treat your body well. Your body deserves to be treated like a temple, and by doing so, you will naturally have a more positive body image.
4) Be accepting of change
Your body will change over time; that's natural and normal! If you can accept these changes gracefully, they'll be less likely to bother you. Learn to love the skin you're in at every stage of life. If there are things that bother you that can be fixed, then find ways to do so. For example, if you don't like your teeth, then you could consider veneers. A veneers procedure is minimally invasive and can give you the smile you always wanted to help you feel confident!
5) Talk back to negative thoughts
Every time you have a negative thought about your body, counter it with a positive one. For example, the next time you think, "My thighs are so huge!" rather tell yourself, "I am so thankful for my strong legs that enable me to walk long distances/run/jump/dance." Fill your mind with loving thoughts about yourself; eventually, those will be your only thoughts about your body!
In conclusion, by following these five tips, you will be on your way to having a more positive body image which will lead to increased confidence! Just remember to be patient with yourself and love yourself each and every day.
